Structured
Cabling at a Glance
A building may
have different cabling systems for different communication
systems there could be for example Block wiring for voice or
coaxial for Ethernet..

Structured cabling
replaces all the different cabling with a single cabling system
which covers the whole building for voice and data requirements.
When a structured
cabling system is installed, all user outlets are the same for
all services; the outlet can be configured for voice, Ethernet,
video or any other service. If for example an outlet needs to be
used for an analogue device the use of a master balun is
required to change from an RJ45 to an LJU (BT plug)
When a structured cabling
system is installed, the floors are usually ‘flood wired’
with outlets being installed on a per square metre grid layout,
rather than to individual user positions. This allows for more
flexibility without having to re-cable, when changes are made to
the layout of the building. |
